Accent furniture is small in size but very essential to compliment other furniture around the room. For example, it's not enough to have a sofa and TV cabinet in your living room. It requires accent furniture like side tables to hold the table lamps, show pieces, photo frames, etc. Even if you dont have any such decorative items you would still require an accent table to place your TV remote control, coffee mug, books and magazines. Not only the living, but you might need them for other rooms as well.
Chrome plated tubular steel may not sound like the material found in antique furniture. Steel does not have the patina, warmth, or graining of wood normally associated with antiques. However, the benchmark chair of contemporary furniture, the Wassily, which was designed in 1925 by Marcel Breuer of the Bauhaus School, will, in only 15 years, be considered an antique by government standards.
Next, consider the function of the piece. The interior furniture needs to function in several ways. It should fit well within the room that you want to place it in, in the matter of size. Crowding a room with too much makes it overwhelming. Second, it needs to provide for enough seating for your family. If you have children, look for furniture that is stain guarded and easy to take care of as well. The function of the pieces of furniture should also help to enhance the items such as wall coverings, carpeting and other elements that you already have. Or, you'll need to replace these.
